Assistant Superintendent

Upper Montclair Country Club, Clifton, NJ

Upper Montclair is a private 27-hole golf club located 9 miles West of NY City. The course was originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1929. In the 1950’s, a major course renovation was directed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. which transformed the Upper Montclair Country Club into its present 27-hole Championship design. Upper Montclair County Club has a strong tradition of producing championship conditions and is considered to be one of the best private clubs in northern New Jersey. In early 2019, to coincide with our clubhouse renovation, we also built a state-of-the-art short game facility with practice greens on USGA spec. soils. The golf course is comprised of Bent/Poa fairways, tees, and modified push up greens.

This position gives the assistant a unique opportunity to manage their own 9 hole course within Upper Montclair, allowing them to use their skill set for moisture management, scouting abilities, and a more detailed eye for quality control. This position also allows the assistant to become acquainted with a more technology based approach using programs such as Tasktracker, Toro Lynx, Playbooks for Golf, POGO, TEK GPS Carts, drone mapping, EZLocator, and newly added GPS Sprayers to help better the golf course and membership experience.

We often look to promote from within and have had 3 assistants move on to Superintendent Positions over the past 2 years.
