Essex Fells Country Club is a private club located in Northern New Jersey just 10 miles west of Newark Airport and 15 miles southwest of New York City. We have most recently celebrated our 125th anniversary and the club is embarking on the creation of a property-wide master plan that will guide us through the next 125 years. We are in the planning stages of a largescale clubhouse and pool facility upgrade, as well as preparing for property wide golf course improvements. Since the club's inception, in 1896, we have had significant course improvements directed by famed architects such as Seth Raynor, A.W. Tillinghast, Robert Trent Jones, and Rees Jones. The club has most recently decided to engage with Jim Urbina for the creation of a master plan, and we are extremely excited to see him revert our golf course back to how it presented in the golden age, while keeping in mind, the needs of, “modern day golf.” The master plan will be inclusive of, but not limited to a full-scale bunker renovation, expanded greens and fairway mowing patterns for additional angles of play, a continual drainage and tree management program, expanded native areas, and lastly the installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system after all course renovations are completed.
Essex Fells is searching for an Assistant Superintendent that is highly motivated and has goals and aspirations of becoming a Golf Course Superintendent in the future. We are looking for an individual that is a strong communicator/listener that will help drive our maintenance team in providing championship course conditioning day in and day out. Our team needs someone that is not afraid to ask questions and/or interject when they have an opportunity to improve operations. At Essex Fells, we understand that it is our responsibility to train, elevate, and promote all team members with the end goal of moving them on to bigger and better opportunities. The Assistant will work hand in hand with the Golf Course Superintendent planning and executing crew scheduling and management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for applying plant protectants, hand watering, surveying irrigation needs, record keeping, project management, team training and performing many other various tasks that are pertinent to delivering high level golf course conditioning.
