ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
Seabright Lawn Tennis & Cricket Club, Rumson, NJ

Posted 11/14/2021

A one-of-a-kind turf position is open at one of America’s oldest lawn tennis clubs, as we are searching for a full-time Assistant Superintendent to help maintain fine turf courts, in addition to clay and platform tennis courts. The club dates back to 1877, and we offer a unique centerpiece of 16 lawn tennis courts (bent/poa mix), 9 har-tru clay, and 6 hydro clay tennis courts, in addition to a hard court and 4 heated platform/paddle tennis courts.

We are located in a picturesque coastal community with fantastic beaches, restaurants, and atmosphere. We are less than a 45-minute ferry ride to New York City and about an hour and a half drive to Philadelphia. Our club has been designated as a United States National Historic Landmark.

We have a unique opportunity for the right individual to maintain fine turf at an extremely high level as a member of the managerial staff at a prestigious club, with a bit more work/life balance than can be found in the golf world. The right candidate will have a desire to progress their career within the turf industry, and ideally be enrolled in, or be a recent graduate of, a university turf or soil-sciences program.

We have the unique flexibility to encourage currently enrolled students to apply for this Assistant Superintendent position to broaden their horizons within the turf world while applying the same techniques and strategies for managing fine turf as would be found at top golf courses. We have the ability to work with your university schedule if you are the right candidate for this position. Just bring a positive attitude and willingness to sharpen your management skills both in the office and on the grounds.

The superintendent’s professional experience stretches 20 years at some of the world's top golf courses, and their network crosses the communities of sport’s turf and golf course maintenance. This results in a very positive learning/professional growth environment, with various tournament/sporting event volunteering opportunities being available throughout the year.
