ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

Upper Montclair Country Club is proudly scheduled to host the LPGA Cognizant Founders Cup in May of 2022 through 2024. UMCC has a long history of professional events and is one of a small group of courses to have hosted Tournaments from all three Professional Golf Associations. UMCC is looking for an assistant who wants to be a part of a place with a rich history and help improve the golf course and themselves going forward.

Upper Montclair is a private 27-hole golf club located 9 miles West of New York City. The course was originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1929. In the 1950’s, a major course renovation was directed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. which transformed the Upper Montclair Country Club into its present 27-hole Championship design. Upper Montclair County Club has a strong tradition of producing championship conditions and is considered to be one of the best private clubs in northern New Jersey.

This position gives the assistant a unique opportunity to manage their own 9 hole course within Upper Montclair, allowing them to use their skill set for moisture management, scouting abilities, and a more detailed eye for quality control. UMCC has prided itself in staying on the leading edge of the ever changing technological landscape, using tools such as GPS Sprayers, Toro Lynx, Playbooks, and much more. UMCC also prides itself in preparing its assistants to become Superintendents at their own pace, having produced 3 Superintendents in the last 4 years.

 

Special Requirements:

The assistant superintendent will work with the Director of Grounds, Course Superintendent, and other assistants in all aspects of golf course maintenance. This includes but is not limited to: crew management, irrigation, project work, fertilizer & pesticide applications, record-keeping, scouting and water management.

Educational Requirements:

Assistant must have earned a 2-4 year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or a related field.

Experience Requirements:

The position requires at least 1 year of golf course management experience. We are looking for individuals who work well in a team environment, a basic comprehension of computer skills, have a passion for turfgrass/golf, and individuals who are motivated to improve themselves and the golf course daily. Spanish speaking is a plus but not a requirement

Salary:

$55,000 - $70,000 DOE or Based on Experience
